As the Belmont Stakes wrapped up its second Saratoga run, Bocage Champagne Bar’s events schedule was in high swing, part of a unique strategic plan.
June 1 had already brought Graham Beck Cellar Master Pieter Ferreira in for a special tasting that included oysters and cheese plates — fitting for the South African brand known as the “President’s Choice” after being served at Nelson Mandela’s inauguration.
Then after the tourist-heavy Belmont, locals hit the tiny bubble bar for National Rosé Day (June 12), for which a special flight was served. And June 29 brings “Seaside Sips,” a six-wine and food pairing event celebrating the coastal wines of Portugal.
“More than any other city we’ve worked in, the locals here in Saratoga like the one-off event,” says Bocage co-owner Clark Gale. “So we love coming up with new ideas for parties, especially in the summer when many places turn their focus to all of the tourists that come in. We love tourists — they make Saratoga what it is and are so much fun. But we want the locals to come downtown all summer long.”
Clark and his husband/co-owner Zac Denham are also opening the restaurant Standard Fare on Phila this summer.
“Right now we’re focused on the opening,” Clark says. “But yes, Standard Fare will also throw some creative events!”
