The Jeff Clark Memorial Silks & Satins 5K road race will take place on Saturday July 12, beginning near the Fasig-Tipton auction house at 153 George St., according to the event website.
The race is held annually on the first Saturday of the regular track meet.
Road closures will begin as early as 7 a.m. for set-up and are expected to re-open by 11 a.m., according to a release from the Saratoga Springs Police Department. Intersections will re-open as soon as the last runner passes or as soon as it is safe to do so.
Proceeds from the Silks & Satin 5K benefit Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga (THS), a 501c3 nonprofit organization supporting second careers for retired racehorses in leading safe and meaningful lives, the website says.
“Whether running or walking, participants will enjoy a unique route that celebrates Saratoga’s spirit while supporting Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga (THS), a nonprofit providing transformative equine-assisted programs to Veterans, families, children, and others facing mental health challenges,” press materials say.
“This event has become a meaningful tradition in our community, and we are honored to be part of it as we continue our mission to provide healing through the power of horses. We look forward to coming together with runners, volunteers, and supporters to make this year’s race a memorable one,” said Erin Christopher-Sisk, Founder of Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga.
Runners and walkers are encouraged to register. Volunteers, including friends and family, are also needed to help staff the race, the website says.
