High school baseball players celebrated!
We wish we had been there. Scheduling conflicts meant that we missed it, but two of our high school baseball teams — Saratoga Springs and Saratoga Central Catholic — are BEST in the STATE!
Congratulations to the players and coaches! The city held a parade to celebrate the achievement, topped off at City Hall with a proclamation from Mayor John Safford.
Read about the division that separated the two teams as little leaguers in the Gazette’s story. See the parade on Saratoga Today’s facebook page (we could not find the corresponding story, yet).
DA Heggen to retire, “to live life right now”
Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen will retire effective Aug. 1. The public announcement came Wednesday, the Times Union is reporting. The T-U asked her why she is retiring now, at 62 after a decade in the job, and she said she has plans “to live my life right now.” Contenders will run to replace her in the November General Election.
WFP sees a shift on the liberal wing
Primary races, especially for mayor, across New York State favored liberal Democrats, ones more closely aligned with the Working Families Party, party leaders told the Times Union. WFP leaders see it as a “seismic shift” in public attitude their positions on health care, education and tax policy. The primary winners in Albany, Buffalo, New York City and Syracuse on Tuesday night all aligned with WFP priorities, the story says.
At this hour: Traffic, weather and the markets
Weather
The high temperature today is expected in the mid-70s, the National Weather Service’s Albany office says. That comes with a 60% chance of rain after 5 p.m.
A “coronal hole” in the Sun means the slight potential for northern lights viewing in the Northern New York, tonight.
Traffic
At this hour — a little before 7 a.m.: Construction work at Exit 7 on Interstate-87 is still slowing traffic traffic there. Otherwise, smoooooth sailing in and around Saratoga Springs.
