The New York State Police are investigating a swimming death that occurred in Saratoga Lake on Thursday July 17 at about 3:13 p.m.
State Police Aviation and the Troop G Underwater Recovery Team searched for and eventually found the individual whom they later identified as Thomas D. Walsh Jr., 62 of Cohoes, New York.
According to police, Walsh had been out on a watercraft and entered the water intentionally to go swimming without a floatation device. After swimming for a period, he showed signs of distress and went under water.
Another individual attempted to assist Mr. Walsh but also became distressed and was rescued from the water by another person passing in a boat. The second swimmer was evaluated by Emergency Medical Services at the scene but did not require further treatment, the police report says.
