Update from State Police July 16, 10:33: The roads reopened at about 4:15 Tuesday July 15, state police are reporting.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian, a 63-year-old female, was crossing Main Street when a northbound 2014 Ford Fiesta struck them. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS,” a press release from the state police says.
“The vehicle operator, Bryan D. Royston, age 52, of Hilton, NY, remained on scene and contacted 911. Troopers interviewed the operator and detected no signs of impairment. The operator was evaluated by EMS and declined further medical treatment,” the release says.
The investigation is ongoing.
Original Post, July 15: The New York State police are asking travelers in the vicinity of Exit 17 on Interstate-87 the Adirondack Northway to “please seek alternate routes for evening commuting.” A pedestrian was struck and killed near the intersection of State Route 9 (Saratoga Road) and Fawn Road.
Route 9 between Spier Falls Road and Exit 17 is closed for the investigation and is expected to remain closed until later this evening. This closure includes the northbound Exit 17 offramp of I-87.
The intersection is a busy one with four lanes of traffic including turn lanes on Route 9.
State Police responded to the reports of a crash at the intersection at about 11:47 a.m., a press release from the Trooper’s office says.
A commercial vehicle traveling northbound on State Route 9 struck a pedestrian who had been declared dead at the scene, the press release says.
