UPDATED 2:55, July 17: Saratoga Springs police and fire departments were called to 443 Broadway — King’s Kloset is on the main floor — at a about 1:20 Thursday afternoon for what turned out to be an electrical fire on the roof of the building.
A bystander on Woodlawn Avenue saw what they thought was fire atop the roof and called 911. The issue was a burning, and mainly smoking, electrical box, said Chief Joe Dolan, adding that the building sustained minor damage.
The response drew many police and fire vehicles to Broadway which was shut down for a about half an hour. It was re-opened by 1:55 p.m., said SSPD Lt. Paul Veitch, a spokesperson for the department.
“On Broadway, a fire call is going to bring everyone out,” he said.
This is one of many fires involving electrical systems in recent weeks. Over the July 4 weekend, Whitman’s Brewing Company lost an HVAC air conditioner, and the library has lost three HVAC units in two weeks.
UPDATED 1:55 p.m. July 17: Both lanes have reopened. Most of the emergency vehicles have left the area. We will have more as we learn it.
Original Post 1:30 July 17: Emergency services have shut down Broadway in both directions near the intersection with Caroline Street. Officials had little information to share at this point, and although it drew many fire trucks and other emergency vehicles, the threat may be over.
This is a developing story. We will update as needed.
